How you can help

Faculty are welcomed and encouraged to refer any of their students to the Peer Coaching program. If you notice a student who seems to be struggling to adapt to their new life at Utah Tech University, don’t hesitate to reach out to us as our Peer Coaches can help your student with:

Attendance

If you have a student who is not attending your class regularly, it is crucial that you let the Peer Coaches know. Their absence could be an indicator of bigger struggles they might be facing. Our Peer Coaches can reach out to the student and refer them to campus resources or lend a helping hand if needed.

Academic Performance

If you have a student who is falling behind academically, alerting a Peer Coach would significantly help their performance in your class. Peer Coaches are trained to teach them classroom skills like how to take a test, proper study habits, and time management. Peer Coaches teach your student how to get the most out of their time in your class.

Social Skills

If you notice a student is having a hard time connecting with other students in your class, do not worry as most students have this struggle when they come to college. While your student might be coming to class and earning a good grade, you might notice they seem disengaged or are quiet during group discussions. These signs can be indicators or homesickness or other deeper issues. A Peer Coach can assist your student in learning how to cope with these struggles and succeed in your classroom.
